One minute I was thinking if I should spoil myself a bit and upgrade my 25/10Mbps DSL connection...
....fuck.
...and freakin hell I’m already paying $40 for this line.

Ahhhh, now there’s a tag that I can resonate with.
I’m paying 54+tax for Teksavvy Cable (75/10/Unlimited)

Those prices don’t look terrible to me (especially in Canada bucks) . I’m pretty sure I’d be paying more than that (in USD) for 500 or Giga bit (not actually sure those are available here, currently Comcast gives me 300Mb/s) Of course even with 25Mb /s you should be getting close to 3MB/s. The real concern is that this one game will use a third of your cap, which seems pretty low.

Wtf? I have 300mbps for $50 on a 2 year contract with Shaw

Actually, I was downloading a video card driver alongside with it as well, that’s why it got throttled. It’s hitting 3MB/s right now but still like 12 hours. Rockstar is partly to blame here since they decided NOT to implement a backup/restore system like Steam does. I just reinstalled 2 large games in seconds by pulling the cache from my old PC versus this piece of crap. And partly me for not waiting for its Steam release.
In general I care more about upload speeds since I work from home and need a stable connection to work. It used to be that I remote desktop to my work computer, but these days I have a work laptop and most of it is VPN connection plus remote shells only, so it’s less of a concern.
This is already one of the cheaper third-party providers, so they don’t “look bad”. But in reality we’re still one of the most expensive countries.

What’s the regular price after the contract though? Fido (a.k.a. Rogers) is also doing $30 for 75/10 but that’s 50% off.
I’m allergic to contracts after that fiasco with Bell where they signed me on to a 2-year contract but the discount is only for 1-year, where my *landline* shot up to $50 a month.

Over $100. I can’t remember the exact price but near $120?
I've had ok luck with contracts. But I don't have Cable or home phone.

I pay $69 for Sasktel 10/2/Unlimited, but I also live in the middle of nowhere.

Rural internet is another issue... but it still stands that even in urban scenarios these companies are an oligopoly.

Oh yeah, absolutely.

Interestingly, for my TPI A, eBox, 75/10 is more than Teksavvy, usually they are cheaper. The higher tiers they are cheaper though, their 500/20 is actually the same price
I was asking Teksavvy if they are offering Gigabit as well (their routing backend is indeed better than eBox) , apparently not. And their Twitter support was very dismissive as well, responding with “we do not price match, what’s on the website is what we offer”. Their CSR used to be so much better...

You mean 1Gbps? 1GB/s is like 8Gbps... which is faster than what most home routers can handle, lol.

I don’t know anything about anything.
It’s 1Gbs. But over the crummy router they provide, it’s usually 400Mbs on wifi.
The PC, TV, and Xbox are all hard wired though so they usually see higher speeds.

i dont think any providers here have a data cap.. you just pay for the speed (well..mobile phone data is capped usually..but not home interwebs)
i pay about $70 for 500mbps...tho that also includes my landline and tv..i could save money if i dropped those....but i like having them

Bitch all you like but until you have experienced the joy and wonder of a 25/5 satellite internet connection with 630 ms signal latency and hard limits to both on and off peak data quotas ...then you have little to complain about. Online gaming is impossible and streaming services like Netflix are an exercise in knowing today what you want to watch tomorrow. But we do have internet...

Not even going to mention what I'm paying for mine. 3 kids on the wifi. Ignite TV. It ain't cheap....

... This looks really cheap to me?
I am paying $99usd /mo for 100Mbps download / 10Mbps upload. and this JUST became available to us this past October. Previously the best option was $60/mo for 10Mbps download / 2Mbps upload.
